GoodWe Battery and Hybrid Inverter Guide for Perth

Many Perth households now want to use more of their own solar, rely less on the grid and have backup when the power goes out. GoodWe hybrid inverters and batteries are a common way to do that. This guide explains how a GoodWe system works, what to check before you buy, and how the federal and WA rebates apply in late 2026.

This article is part of our guide to Best Home Batteries for Perth Homes: Brands and Systems Compared.

Install before 31 December 2026 to lock in this year's rebates.

From 1 January 2027 the federal battery rebate drops by about 16% (STC factor 6.8 → 5.7) and the solar panel rebate by about 20% (deeming period 5 → 4 years). It falls again in July 2027. The WA $1,300 rebate is limited to 100,000 households and is paid until the allocation runs out. Installation slots before Christmas fill fast, so lock in a date now.

Our GoodWe package

13.3 kW of solar with 44.25 kWh of usable GoodWe battery storage on a GoodWe 10 kW hybrid inverter, with $11,000 of rebates taken off the quote. See the GoodWe package for Perth homes →

Why Perth homes choose GoodWe

GoodWe is one of the larger inverter makers in the world and has sold hybrid inverters in Australia for many years. Pairing a GoodWe hybrid inverter with GoodWe battery modules keeps the inverter, the battery and the warranty with one manufacturer, and the whole system is monitored in the GoodWe SEMS app.

How a GoodWe hybrid inverter works

A standard solar inverter only converts the DC power from your panels to AC. A hybrid inverter also manages a battery and the grid connection, deciding moment to moment whether solar goes to the house, into the battery or out to the grid, and when the battery should power the house.

  • Energy management: solar is used in the house first, the surplus charges the battery, and the battery covers the evening when grid power costs most.
  • Backup: many GoodWe hybrid models have a backup output that keeps chosen circuits running from the battery and solar during an outage. Whether your system has it, and which circuits are covered, should be written on your quote.
  • Adding to existing solar: a hybrid inverter can replace an old inverter, and GoodWe also makes AC-coupled battery inverters for adding a battery beside an existing solar system. Your installer will say which suits your home.
  • Monitoring: the SEMS app shows solar production, battery charge and grid use, so you can see the savings and spot a fault early.

GoodWe batteries

GoodWe's home batteries, including the Lynx Home range, are modular and stackable, use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, and have a battery management system that watches cell voltage, temperature and current. Because they are modular, the storage can be sized to the home and, within the system's limits, extended later.

Rebates and buyback in WA (October 2026)

  • Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: an upfront discount, paid as STCs on the battery's usable kWh and taken off your quote by the installer. Until 31 December 2026 the factor is 6.8 STCs per kWh (full rate on the first 14 kWh, 60% from 14 to 28 kWh, 15% from 28 to 50 kWh). Rebates step down on 1 January 2027, when the factor falls to 5.7.
  • WA Residential Battery Scheme: up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers, based on 10 kWh of usable capacity. You must join a VPP product from your retailer, the battery must be on the retailer's supported list, and the installer must be on the Plenti Vendor Directory. Households with combined income under $210,000 can also get a no-interest loan of up to $10,000 over up to 10 years. It is paid until the 100,000 rebates run out, and it can be combined with the federal discount.
  • Synergy's Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS): 10 cents per kWh for exports between 3pm and 9pm and 2 cents at other times, on the first 50 kWh a day (rates effective 1 July 2025). The inverter can be set to store midday solar rather than export it for 2 cents.
  • Horizon Power buyback: regional customers have their own buyback rates, which vary by town.
  • Emergency solar management: from 1 May 2026, every new or upgraded system on Western Power's network must either let your electricity retailer switch it off remotely in a rare grid emergency, or be export-limited to 1.5 kW. Your installer sets this up.

Illustrative example: a GoodWe system in a Perth home

A household uses 20 kWh a day, much of it in the evening, and has solar with a GoodWe hybrid inverter and a 10 kWh GoodWe battery.

  1. Morning to midday: solar runs the house and the surplus charges the battery instead of being exported for 2 cents.
  2. Afternoon: once the battery is full, any surplus is exported; after 3pm that earns the 10 cent DEBS rate.
  3. Evening: the battery runs the house, so the household buys far less grid power at around 33 cents per kWh (Synergy Home Plan A1, as at 1 July 2026).
  4. Overnight: when the battery is empty, the house draws from the grid.

Illustration only. Actual savings depend on your use, the season, your tariff and the system size.

What to check before you buy

  • Size: the right solar and battery size depends on your bills, your evening use, your roof and your budget. Ask for the battery size in usable kWh.
  • Warranty: GoodWe's warranty terms differ by inverter and battery model and can depend on registration. Ask for the exact inverter and battery warranty, including any energy-throughput limit, in writing with your quote.
  • Installer: use a Clean Energy Council accredited installer; for the WA rebate the installer must also be on the Plenti Vendor Directory.
  • Existing solar: if you already have panels, ask whether a hybrid inverter or an AC-coupled battery inverter suits your system better.

Looking after a GoodWe system

Batteries and inverters need little maintenance. Keep the system online so you can see it in the SEMS app, install it out of direct afternoon sun where possible, and keep the area around it clear for ventilation.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What size GoodWe system do I need?
A: It depends on your daily use, how much of it is in the evening, and your budget. A quote based on your bills or meter data will show the size that pays back best.

Q: How long do GoodWe batteries last?
A: LFP batteries are built for many charge cycles. The warranty sets the years and any throughput limit, so check those on the current datasheet and warranty document for the model you are quoted.

Q: Can I add a GoodWe battery to my existing solar?
A: Usually, yes, either by replacing the inverter with a hybrid or by adding an AC-coupled battery inverter. An installer will check your existing system.

Q: What does a hybrid inverter do for me?
A: It uses your solar in the house first, stores the rest, runs the house from the battery in the evening and, on backup-capable models, keeps chosen circuits running in a blackout.
